Chapter Eight

Ice glanced down to the opponent he just sent to the floor of the ring. Johnny was a friend of his and a damn good fighter, but that didn’t stop him from going hard on him. Ice stuck his hand out offering his friend a help to his feet.

“I don’t know what the hell got into your boy, Maverick, but I want some of whatever he’s on,” Johnny said, smiling at Ice as he took the hand offered to him.

Maverick moved to the side of the ring. “I wish I knew, kid. I’d bottle it and give it to all my fighters. That’s one hell of a spar, Ice. I can’t tell if you’re pissed off at the world or having the best day of your life.”

“You two wanks should be delighted I’m having a good day. I haven’t fought this good in weeks.”

The other two men eyed each other before turning back to him. “We know. So what is it? It’s like you entered the ring a whole new man. This doesn’t have anything to do with that new, hot piece of ass you have going on right now is it?” Johnny laughed. Ice’s humor deflated, and he shot a glare over to his friend. Nicole was too nice a girl to be called a random piece of ass. She was nothing like those other girls who threw themselves at the fighters. “Don’t call her that, man. She’s a good girl. She’s not like the others.”

He wasn’t sure when he had made the decision to let everyone know he and Nicole had something going on, but word had gotten around Big Dogs pretty quickly. Now everyone looked at the two of them as if they were a couple.

Johnny grinned and nodded. “Right. A stripper with a golden heart.”

Heat rose in his chest, and his fingers curled tightly into his palm. “Seriously, man. Drop it.”

His friend must have sensed that he wasn’t kidding and decided it best not to push him any further. “Sorry, man. It’s just…you were burned not that long ago by Kelly and…”

“She’s not Kelly. Let’s drop it.” It annoyed him more that it bothered him what others thought and said about Nicole. It wasn’t that he had an emotional attachment to her, it was the simple fact that she didn’t deserve for people to talk shit behind her back. He would have felt the same way even before he started sleeping with her.

It had been two days since their first time together in her apartment. After he had made his mind up to crawl back between her sheets, he found himself sleeping through the entire night with her in his arms. What shocked him even more was how much he liked the feel of being there next to her.
